Burgers in Sauce

Writer's picture: stelladrezstelladrez

I created this recipe when I had a couple of burgers in the freezer, it was just me in the flat and I didn't want to make them into a traditional burger with buns and all the sides. Cold, left over burger meat just doesn't taste that nice and it dries as it stays in the fridge. So here is a saucy recipe that keeps things moist.

Ingredients

2 beef burgers

1-2 onions, depending on size, sliced

Generous splash of whiskey (Keep out if you don't drink alcohol)

1 mug beef broth

Worcester sauce, to taste

2 tbsp yogurt, watered down a little so it stays lump free once heated

Salt and pepper, to taste

Oil

(Optional) Flour and water slurry

Method

Add a little oil to a hot pan. Place the burgers in, frying on both sides until brown. Don't worry if they are not cooked all the way through at this stage. Take the burgers out and place on a plate.

Add a little more oil if needed and fry the onions until soft and golden. Add the splash of whisky and let the alcohol evaporate for a couple of minutes.

Add the broth and a few splashes of Worcester sauce. bring back to the boil and cook for another couple of minutes. Add the yogurt and stir in. season.

Place the burgers back, flipping them every few minutes until cooked all the way through.

If you prefer the sauce to be ticker, add the flour slurry and stir, cooking until everything thickens.

Serve with mash and greens.
